Chelsea made late attempt to hijack Spurs’ Richarlison move with Broja swap offer

Chelsea withdrew their interest when they learned Richarlison was set for Spurs

Chelsea made a late attempt to hijack Tottenham’s move for Richarlison, offering Everton a swap deal which would have seen Armando Broja move to in the opposite direction.

Richarlison is poised to complete a move to Spurs after Everton accepted an offer thought to be more than £50m for the forward.

Chelsea offered Everton Broja swap deal

However, according to sources close to JOE, Chelsea made a move for the Brazilian international on Wednesday night, offering Broja, who they value at £35m, along with a further £15m.

The offer was later withdrawn when it became clear the player was set to move to Spurs.

Broja, a Slough-born Albanian international, spent last season on loan at Southampton, scoring six times for the club. A product of Chelsea’s academy, he is expected to leave the club on a permanent basis this summer, with West Ham strongly linked with him.

Richarlison to complete Spurs move on Thursday

Spurs are understood to have already agreed personal terms with Richarlison who, barring any late unexpected issues, will finalise his move to London on Thursday.

The 25-year-old joined Everton from Watford in 2018 in a deal worth £50m. He has gone on to score 53 times for the Merseyside club in 152 appearances.

News of Chelsea’s interest in Richarlison is clear indication they are in the market for a new striker, having offloaded Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan to Inter Milan on Wednesday.
