Micah Richards almost spills pasta celebrating Kevin De Bruyne’s goal vs Real Madrid

Great save, to be fair

Micah Richards hilariously produced the ‘save of the night’ as he reacted quickly to stop food from falling out of his mouth celebrating Manchester City’s opening goal against Real Madrid.

The former City defender was eating pasta when Kevin De Bruyne struck against Madrid after just 94 seconds at the Etihad Stadium – sending the stadium, and the studio, into raptures.

Pulsating clash at the Etihad

Pep Guardiola’s men won the pulsating first-leg 4-3, with De Bruyne scoring the first goal with a well-worked header before Gabriel Jesus doubled their lead on 11 minutes.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side got themselves back in the contest thanks to a Karim Benzema’s smart finish.

City restored their two-goal cushion through Phil Foden, only for Vinicius Jr to quickly reduce the deficit once again to make it 3-2.

Bernardo Silva scored a stunning goal to reinstate the two-goal advantage, which was then cut back again by Benzema who netted with a spectacular panenka penalty.

Richards goes wild

Ex-City man Richards – who played for the club in the Champions League between 2011 and 2014 – was working as a pundit for CBS Sports. Probably not expecting a fast-paced start to the match, the 33-year-old was calmly sat in his chair eating his meal.

However, De Bruyne’s quick opener sent him crazy, and in turn almost saw some food fly out of his mouth.

Although the former England international was able to stop the pasta from falling, he was subject to brutal jokes from CBS Sports colleague Jamie Carragher.

“Well look, this has to be analysed,” the Liverpool legend jokingly said.

“When you’re talking about some of the technicians we had on the show today, [Toni] Kroos, [Luka] Modric, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, no one produced a better first touch and control of a situation than Micah Richards with the pasta.

“Look at this, he thinks he’s lost it, mis-controlled it, and look at this.

“Forget your Luka Modric, we’ve got Micah!” Carragher hilariously added.

“Big Meeks, Big Meeks is back!”

Advantage, City

Guardiola’s men will now take a 4-3 lead to Madrid next week, hoping to progress to their second Champions League final in as many years.
