Life is rarely dull in the world of French international football.

The Euro 2016 hosts have been keeping a pretty low profile of late as they prepare for next summer's tournament. But, in keeping with their long tradition of off-field distractions, AFP are reporting that Karim Benzema was taken into custody on Tuesday to be questioned over the alleged blackmailing of Mathieu Valbuena. The Real Madrid striker follows former Liverpool player Djibril Cisse, who was also questioned by police in relation to allegations that a sex tape involving Valbuena is being used to extort money from the Lyon playmaker. Cisse was released and denied any involvement, saying himself and Valbuena are friends. Real Madrid striker Benzema went to a police station in Versailles, with a source saying: "We can confirm that he is being questioned over his role in this affair." The Real star missed Tuesday's 1-0 win over Paris St Germain through injury but could be named in the France squad for the forthcoming friendly against England.
