Liverpool reportedly failed in deadline raid for Argentine striker

Steven Caulker may not have been the superstar name that Liverpool fans were expecting.
The centre-back signed on loan for the remainder of the season while Marko Grujic came in on a permanent deal but left immediately to go back on loan with Red Star Belgrade. But Jurgen Klopp's lack of activity in the January transfer window was not for want of trying. Reports are emerging from Italy that appear to confirm that the rumours were true and that the Reds had indeed made a late bid for Inter forward Mauro Icardi.
With Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge all facing injury problems, Klopp wanted to bolster his goalscoring options to see out this campaign.
Corriere della Sera (via Football Italia) claim that Liverpool came in at the very death in an attempt to bring Icardi to Anfield.
The fee quoted is around €30 million (nearly £23m) but the San Siro side saw fit to reject it, despite the fact that Icardi has reportedly fallen out favour with Roberto Mancini.
