Referee Jon Moss accused of refusing Jurgen Klopp’s olive branch after game

Or did he just not see the Reds boss?

Liverpool supporters are even more infuriated with referee Jon Moss.

Moss came in for significant criticism for a first-half decision to send off Sadio Mane for a high boot when Manchester City thrashed Liverpool 5-0 in the lunchtime kick-off.

With a ball bouncing between Mane and City goalkeeper Ederson, the Reds forward accidentally connected with the stopper’s jaw and forced a lengthy spell of treatment on the pitch.

Moss perceived the incident as reckless and dangerous play on the part of Mane and sent him for an early shower in a decision which has divided opinion among fans.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made no secret of the fact that he disagreed with Moss’ call but that didn’t stop the German international from trying to shake the match official’s hand following the final whistle.

Klopp took to the pitch and shook hands with the referee’s assistants but Moss failed to follow suit.

Premier League rules dictate that we cannot show you footage of the exchange but we have taken the liberty of providing screenshots.

To be fair to the referee, he could argue that he didn’t see Klopp’s attempt to shake his hand but he would had to have been rather oblivious to miss the fact that the visitors’ manager had just done so with the linesmen who were flanking Moss.

Supporters were certainly in no doubt about what they’d seen as the Sky Sports coverage of the game wrapped up.
