Rangnick will now focus on management
Manchester United have decided to scrap plans to appoint Ralf Rangnick in a consultancy role ahead of next season.
The 63-year-old was set to move into the two-year role after serving his time as the club’s interim manager, but cited that his recent appointment as manager of the Austrian national team would take up too much of his time.
Rangnick had been scheduled to work six days a month in his role at Old Trafford but after discussions between both parties, it was decided that it would be better to go their separate ways.
United thanked Rangnick in a club statement on Sunday

A statement from the club said: “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months.
“By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.
“We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”
Rangnick will now turn his attention to working with Austria
Rangnick took charge of United in November following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as United prepared their search for a long-term replacement.
Despite impressing in his first game in charge, fortunes didn’t change for the German as the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League and finished sixth in the Premier League.
United were also knocked out of the last 16 of the Champions League to Atletico Madrid and endured a miserable end to the season.
In addition to on the pitch problems, there were also several reports of discontent between Rangnick and the playing staff, with the latter not buying into the German’s philosophy.
He will now focus on preparations for Austria’s upcoming Nations League campaign.
