Punter scores a massive, winning accumulator by spelling out ‘C-E-L-T-I-C’

"Given that everything Brendan Rogers side touched turned to gold this year, it’s hardly unsurprising that it came off."

Come on you Bhoys in Green.

An anonymous bettor in Ireland picked out six horses from races at Naas, Limerick, Market Rasen and Stretford to win himself a cool €25,000 (£21,555).

What was so special about their selections was that the first letter of the six horses spelled out Scottish champions, Celtic.

The punter, who hails from Antrim, placed the €58 (£50) successful bet on Sunday, the same day that Celtic defeated Hearts and went the rest of the season undefeated in the Scottish Premiership.

The bet began with Too Many Diamonds (11/10) in the 2.20 at Market Rasen and was followed by Idliketheoption (7/2) in the 4.00 at Market Rasen; Listen Dear (5/6) in the 4.05 at Limerick; Caravaggio (4/11) in the 4.15 at Naas and Emerald Rose (10/3) in the 4.30 at Market Rasen.

The final selection happened to be the first letter of the special bet with Clondaw Draft (2/1) at Stretford clearing the rest of the field by nine lengths to cap it all off.

Paddy Power spokesman Feilim Mac An Iomaire said: “Celtic topped off a remarkable season by finishing off their league campaign unbeaten and it would appear that they’re as unbeatable on a betting docket as they were on the pitch.

“It’s definitely one of the more unusual ways we’ve seen of picking selections but given that everything Brendan Rogers side touched turned to gold this year, it’s hardly unsurprising that it came off.

“Hats off to him and we’re delighted to be able to fund the well-deserved double celebrations.”
