Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed that Sergio Rico is in a "serious condition" after being involved in a horse riding accident.
Rico, 29, was on the bench in PSG's 1-1 draw against Strasbourg on Saturday as they reclaimed their Ligue 1 title and returned to his native Spain after being given time off to celebrate their win.
The goalkeeper was riding in the El Rocio region of Huelva when he was involved in a collision with a runaway horse, according to local media.
A spokesperson for the French champions said that he was in a "serious condition" but he was "in constant contact with his loved ones."
In a statement on Twitter, they said: "Paris Saint-Germain learned of the accident involving its player Sergio Rico on Sunday and remains in constant contact with his loved ones. The entire Red and Blue community offers them its full support."
His former club Sevilla tweeted their support for the 29-year-old, saying: "Lots of strength and speedy recovery."
Rico spent the 2018/2019 season on loan at Fulham in the Premier League where he featured 32 times in all competitions, keeping six clean sheets in the process.
He has failed to make a single appearance for PSG this season, acting as a back-up to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
