PSG offer 500 tickets to Paris firefighters who extinguished Notre Dame fire

500 firefighters have been invited to PSG vs AS Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain have offered 500 match tickets for their match against AS Monaco to firefighters who helped to tackle the blaze that engulfed the Notre Dame cathedral on Monday afternoon.

If PSG win on Sunday, which they have not been able to do in their past two games, they will wrap up a second consecutive Ligue 1 title.

The club have pledged to help raise funds to restore the historic cathedral that caught fire earlier this week, likely due to an electrical fault. The roof of the cathedral was mostly destroyed and its iconic spire fell several hours before firefighters were able to fully extinguish the blaze.

"In the aftermath of the fire that ravaged part of the Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, Paris Saint-Germain shares the immense emotion of all Parisians, the French people and those around the world who have been shocked and saddened by this disaster," the club said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The club has already started to bring together all its key stakeholders, main partners and huge community of fans both in Paris and abroad, aiming to start or participate in a series of initiatives such as fundraising events that will be part of the tremendous campaign to rebuild the cathedral in the following years.

"Paris Saint-Germain would also like to express its admiration and solidarity towards the Paris Fire Brigade, whose commitment and bravery made it possible to overcome the flames and limit the extent of the damage. The club will also provide support to the firefighters."

As part of their gesture of gratitude towards those brave firefighters who risked their lives to save a huge part of French culture, the club will offer 500 tickets to their potentially league winning game against Monaco this weekend.
