A Portsmouth fan has lashed out at Sunderland defender Luke O’Nien during their 0-0 draw at Fratton Park on Thursday.

The goalless draw means that Sunderland will advance to the League One play-off final later this month with the Black Cats set to face off against the winner of Doncaster and Charlton who play on Friday night.

With no goals in the game, the most notable event of the night was the altercation between O’Nien and some Portsmouth fans in the front row.

Before the game Hampshire police had to reassure fans of their safety after a man was arrested overnight after threats were put out on social media about the game.

A 22-year-old man, from Northallerton, was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning on suspicion of making threats to kill and remains in custody.

The threats referenced the Manchester Arena bombing which killed 23 people in May 2017.

“I wounder (sic) how many Portsmouth fans I can shoot everyone remember the Manchester arena bombing just imagine fratton park going bang well let’s find out tomorrow,” read the initial post.
