Police were called to Maguire’s home on Thursday

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was forced to vacate his home after Cheshire Police were called to his house over a bomb threat.

Police are currently searching the defender’s property in Alderley Edge after Maguire received an email from an anonymous source claiming that a bomb had been planted at his home.

The 29-year-old is reportedly in a ‘state of shock’ according to The Sun and police are currently taking the matter extremely seriously.

Sniffer dogs and officers were sent to his home to investigate, where the England international lives with his fiancé Fern Hawkins and their two daughters.

Cheshire Police also released a further statement on the incident, confirming that no evacuation had taken place. They said: “No evacuation has taken place but as a precautionary measure, a police explosive’s dog has attended the address this afternoon (Thursday April 21) to conduct a search of the gardens and surrounding area.”

Maguire has struggled for form at Man United this season

Maguire has struggled for form this season in a United shirt and played the full 90 minutes in a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night.

The defender’s form has also sparked question marks over his role as the club’s captain, with many believing that he should be stripped of his current role, and even dropped from the side.

Fresh questions may be asked as well now that the club have confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the new boss at Old Trafford.

The 50-year-old will take the reins from the start of next season and is expected to lead a mass overhaul of the squad, with several first-team players set to move on.

One position Ten Hag is looking at is the centre-back position as he aims to find someone who is comfortable with playing in a high line.

It’s unknown if Ten Hag plans to keep Maguire as captain or even consider him as someone who can be a part of the new United vision.

United are currently sixth in the table and are three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
