Ayoze Perez scores brilliant back-heel flick in Newcastle’s preseason training

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably feeling a bit miserable this week

We’ve gone a whole three days since the World Cup final and are missing live, televised football very, very much.

Yeah, make no mistake about it, these are desperate times. So desperate, in fact, that here we are bringing you a story about a goal scored on a training ground.

This, though, isn’t any old goal scored on a training ground. Not at all. It’s a training ground goal so good that the man responsible for it, Ayoze Perez, has gone to the trouble of uploading and sharing to his how social media channels. Bless him.

Perez and his Newcastle teammates kicked off their preseason in Ireland with a 2-0 win over St Patrick’s Athletic. During a training camp in Dublin, the Spaniard can be seen taking part in a drill where a ball is crossed from the right wing. Moving towards the near post, Perez’s run takes him underneath the flight of the ball which is then headed goal-ward by a teammate. The effort is saved by goalkeeper Rob Elliot, leaving Perez to improvise from the edge of the six-yard box as he runs away from goal.

‘Does it count for the goal of the season contest? his tweet reads. It doesn’t, but it’s definitely the best goal we’ve seen scored since Sunday. Very well done.

Newcastle kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Tottenham on August 11. Their first away game of the season sees them pay a visit to newly promoted Cardiff City on August 18.
