Patrice Evra slams Jamie Carragher for criticising Cristiano Ronaldo

‘I don’t understand the hate, some people wake up and want to talk about Cristiano.’

Patrice Evra has slammed Jamie Carragher for criticising Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese captain scored twice in Manchester United’s 3-2 win against Arsenal.

United went a goal down to Emile Smith Rowe’s controversial strike, but they levelled proceedings quickly after the half-time break thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ smart finish.

The Red Devils then took the lead through Ronaldo, but his and United’s joy was short-lived as Martin Odegaard swept home Gabriel Martinelli’s cross to make it 2-2.

However, the home side once again took the lead when they were awarded a penalty for Odegaard’s tackle on Fred – Ronaldo stepped up to take the spot-kick and converted with ease.

United were able to hold onto their lead and secure an important victory, with the win seeing them move just three points began fourth-placed West Ham.

Ronaldo scored his 800th and 801st goals in United’s victory, leading Evra to further condemn the critisim that he has faced in recent weeks – particularly from Liverpool legend Carragher.

Speaking to Amazon Prime after the match, Evra said: “There’s a lot of talk about this player and I really don’t understand.

“Some players like Jamie Carragher, I think he had like 775 games and Cristiano has today scored his 800th and 801st goal, and those kind of people talk about Ronaldo.

“I just think people have to stay in their line, I don’t understand the hate, some people wake up and want to talk about Cristiano.”

Carragher recently argued with Roy Keane about why United re-signed Ronaldo, with the ex-Liverpool man questioning if he would help the Red Devils to start to win league titles again.
