Irish golfer Shane Lowry showed up to the Phoenix Open with a bag of cans

He didn't play too badly either.

You can take the man out of Offaly…

It would certainly seem that Shane Lowry’s affability knows absolutely no bounds as he proved once again why he’s one of the most popular figures in golf.

Lowry possesses all the traits necessary to be admired by sports fans.

He’s got class in the face of disappointment, he’s got humility in spite of his undeniable talent and he’s not afraid to show off exactly who he is. And he’s got a bag of cans for good measure!

The man is a legend. Simple as.

And the golf fans who were gathered on the 16th hole of the Phoenix Open on Saturday afternoon would certainly agree with that sentiment as they were treated to a few tasty sips of Guinness while Lowry finished off his third round.

Lowry kept his weekend momentum going through Saturday and made himself a few new friends as he showed up with a bag full of Guinness cans and gleefully handed them out to the spectators.

In what was a disappointing day for Ireland’s rugby team, Lowry provided some much needed hope for Irish sport as he stayed in contention in Phoenix.

Lowry moved to 10 under at TPC Scottsdale by carding a third round 66 and sits within touching distance of the leaders following a round that got off to a blistering start with four birdies on the bounce.

“Yeah, it was good, the best I played in a long time,” said Lowry after the round.

“I feel like I should have been a lot better. I think I had four putts I missed inside four feet, and three of them were for birdie so it was one of those days where I’m really happy with my score. I think I have a chance going into tomorrow but it could have been better.”

Hopefully Lowry can, at the very least, record his second consecutive top 10 finish at the Phoenix Open but we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that he can challenge for top spot.
