Nick Kyrgios complains about ‘drunk’ spectator during Wimbledon final

Don’t think Kyrgios was very happy

Nick Kyrgios voiced his frustration with a ‘drunk’ spectator during his Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic.

The Australian, in first major singles final, took the first set 6-4 in 30 minutes. However, Djokovic produced an immediate reply to a Kyrgios’ strong start by taking the second set 6-3.

During the third set, Kyrgios was visibly annoyed with one spectator in particular, with the 27-year-old complaining about a woman to the umpire.

Kyrgios pointed out the spectator, who he claimed was in the front row and inebriated. The umpire gave him a code violation for his persistent yelling and foul language.

He asked the umpire to eject the woman, however, the official said, “I don’t know which one it is”, to which Kyrgios replied: “It’s the one who looks like she’s had seven hundred drinks, bro.”

Djokovic – the reigning champion – battled back to take the lead in the tie and took the third set to go 2-1 ahead of the incredibly frustrated Kyrgios.

Kyrgios is in search of a maiden Grand Slam singles title, while Djokovic is seeking a 21st and to narrow the gap on his rival, Rafael Nadal, who has 22.

How did social media react?

One Twitter user wrote: “Imagine seeing your mum drunk, live on the BBC, being kicked out of centre court for heckling Nick Kyrgios during the Wimbledon final #Wimbledon2022″.

Another added: “Lol @ Nick Kyrgios moaning a drunk woman is affecting his concentration. Then serves an Ace.”

A third said: “I want to see the drunk woman being escorted out”.

Another added: “Nick Kyrgios going at it with the referee and two seconds from going at a drunk fan in the stands”.
