IMPORTANT WORLD CUP UPDATE: NEYMAR HAS A NEW HAIRDO

Okay, okay. Maybe some of you might think a high-profile player changing his hair every once in a while isn’t all that newsworthy. You’re wrong though. It can actually have an impact on how well they play…  or at least that’s what Mark Lawrenson seems to think.

Anyway, ahead of Brazil’s opening game of the tournament against Switzerland, pictures of Neymar’s new hairstyle have made waves on social media. Sort of.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker, who’s only recently returned from a foot injury, appears to have gone blond since his last appearance for his national side, with Twitter users likening his new do to boiled spaghetti.

Here, have a look.

Neymar

Here’s a sample of what’s being said. Expect to see lots more tweets about this during the game later on…

You get the gist.

For what it’s worth, we think it looks lovely.

Brazil are amongst the favourites to win the World Cup this summer, four years on from the disastrous end to the last tournament, which they hosted. Having reached the semi-final, they lost 7-1 to eventual winners Germany in Belo Horizonte. They then went on to lose the third-place final match against the Netherlands, 3-0.

Neymar was one of Brazil’s star performers during the early games of the 2014 tournament but missed their two final games after breaking a bone in his back in their quarter final win over Colombia.

After their opener against Switzerland in Rostov, Brazil will also face group games against Costa Rica on Friday and then Serbia the following Wednesday. After that, they’re expected to move on to the knockout stages.
