Newcastle’s Kenedy escapes a red card for blatant kick at Víctor Camarasa

He’s incredibly lucky to get away with this

Newcastle United’s Kenedy somehow managed to escape a red card on Saturday.

With little over half an hour played of his team’s first away game of the new Premier League season at Cardiff City, he was robbed of possession as he attempted to spin away from Harry Arter and Víctor Camarasa.

With Arter taking the ball, the Brazilian – on loan at Newcastle from Chelsea – ended up colliding with Camarasa.

The contact was minimal and relatively innocuous, so it came as a surprise when Kenedy reacted by aiming a kick at the Spaniard, who instantly hit the deck.

Although the incident appeared to take place only a matter of yards away from referee Craig Pawson, the 22-year-old didn’t even receive a booking.

Despite not showing Kenedy a red, Pawson did send off his teammate, Isaac Hayden for a poor tackle in the second half. Hayden had only entered the game as a half-time substitute, lasting just 22 minutes of the game.

Newcastle started their season with a home defeat to Tottenham last weekend.
