Newcastle have signed another player

Obviously they haven’t spent any money, but Newcastle have confirmed the signing of Salomón Rondón from West Bromwich Albion. Dwight Gayle has joined West Brom as part of the deal. The clubs have swapped strikers on a one year loan basis.

Dwight Gayle is a proven goalscorer in the Championship – he bagged 23 goals during Newcastle’s promotion winning 16/17 season, but has struggled to replicate that form in the Premier League. The 27-year-old will be a welcome addition at the Hawthorns after West Brom struggled to find the net last season.

Rondon will provide Newcastle with the physicality that Gayle lacked and act as a focal point in attack. The Venezuelan striker has not scored more than ten goals in any of his three seasons at West Brom but s the type of striker who contributes elsewhere in attack and will facilitate other attackers coming into play.

It is a move that suits all four parties; giving Newcastle a better chance of surviving in the Premier League and boosting West Brom’s chances of returning to the top flight at the first time of asking.
