MMA community fumes as Donald Cerrone picks up training injury

Cerrone vs. Lawler will likely be postponed

Why do bad things happen to good fight fans?

There is a very good reason for the excitement that surrounded the booking of Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler when it first came together last year.

Few fights are guaranteed barnburners but this one literally had no potential for boredom or tentative striking exchanges, which explained the heartbreak that accompanied the bad news that it had been scrapped from the UFC 205 card last November due to an injury to Lawler.

The UFC wisely rebooked the welterweight war for this July, at UFC 213, but it’s just been suggested that two of the toughest 170lbers in the world will not be clashing in the centre of the Octagon on July 8.

Cerrone has reportedly picked up a minor injury but, gamer that he is, still wants to meet ‘Ruthless’, just at a later date.

UFC 213’s loss is very much UFC 214’s gain as the match-up is expected to be moved to the latter card, which takes place three weeks later.

UFC 214 will be headlined by the grudge rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones, when the UFC light heavyweight title will be on the line.

MMAFighting were first to break the news and while the banker for Fight of the Night will likely be postponed, rather than cancelled, MMA fans remained furious that they’d have to wait a further 21 days to witness the bout that simply can’t let us down.
