Not their finest moment

Sergio Busquets was given an awkward welcome to the MLS after the league’s official Twitter account accidentally posted a picture of former Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa instead.

Busquets was formally announced as in Inter Miami player on Sunday and was unveiled alongside former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.

To celebrate the arrival, the MLS announced his signing, revealing he had agreed a deal until 2025 and tweeted a graphic of all the major honours he had won throughout his career.

But rather than showing a picture of the Spanish midfielder they instead used a picture of former Real Madrid and Liverpool defender Arbeloa kissing the World Cup, which he won playing with Busquets in 2010.

Fans across the globe were quick to catch onto the mistake and the admin of the account took it in good taste, replying: “Why do arbeloa and busquets look so similar in these. admin needs new glasses.”

After completing his move to Miami, Busquets said: “This is a special and exciting opportunity that I’m very excited to take.

“I’m looking forward to this next step in my career with Inter Miami. I was impressed by the club when I came with Barcelona last year and now I’m happy and ready to represent the club myself.

“I can’t wait to help bring the success that this ambitious club strives for.”

Like Messi, Busquets could make his debut for his new side in the newly formed Leagues Cup against Mexican side Cruz Azul on Friday.

As for their league campaign, Inter Miami will be hoping the arrival of two marquee players will result in a dramatic improvement in league performance.

Miami are currently bottom of the Eastern Conference and winless in their last 11 games. Meanwhile another former Barça star in Jordi Alba is reportedly set to link up with Busquets and Messi in the US imminently.
