Mikel Arteta earns ‘massive pay rise’ as Gunners boss agrees new contract

More good news for Arteta...

The Gunners boss led his club to their first Premier League title in more than two decades last season, and has been deservedly rewarded.

According to Mokbel's report, Arteta's "new contract will also include a sharp pay increase from his current salary of £10m per year plus an additional £5m in bonuses."

How high could Arteta's new salary be?

A report in The Guardian, published immediately after Arsenal's Premier League triumph in May, might provide some insight into how much more the 44-year-old will be payed, once his new contract commences.

The report suggests that Arteta will be handed a salary increase worth around the same earned by Diego Simeone, the highest paid manager in world football.

This could be increased to reach as high as €30m (£26m) a year, to meet the rate of Simeone's wages.

If the reported increase comes about, it would make Arteta an even higher earner than Pep Guardiola was, during his final Man City contract, reportedly worth £20 million per season.

The investment from Arsenal in Arteta should not come as a surprise.

In his six years at the club, the 44-year-old has transformed Arsenal from Europa League battlers into Champions League finalists, all while becoming the second youngest manager to win the Premier League in history.

Although the exact length of Arteta's contract is yet to be confirmed, the Gunners' boss will now see his Emirates stay extend well over a decade.
