Michael Owen’s attempt at a bit of fun with Halloween played out just how you’d imagine

That went well

In terms of Twitter mentions, Michael Owen’s are likely only rivalled by Gary Lineker’s shat-tastic replies.

We’d very much doubt that either make a habit of frequently checking their notifications from unverified accounts and it certainly seems like a wise choice.

Owen tried to have a bit of fun on Monday but Twitter users don’t tend to allow much fun to be had on their watch.

Responding to a Halloween XI which altered footballers’ names to make them more frightening, the former Liverpool and Manchester United forward decided to offer up the, let’s be honest, not great “Mi-Ghoul Owen” suggestion to the discussion.

The effort was not applauded and not a single lol was had.

Instead, a deluge of abuse avalanched its way into Owen’s mention folder.

Poor Michael.
