Micah Richards unexpectedly thrust into co-commentary debut by audio issue

He gave it a good go, to be fair

Micah Richards was hilariously forced to try his hand at co-commentary after audio issues occurred for Sky Sports at the Emirates Stadium during Arsenal’s clash with Leicester City on Sunday.

At the start of the second-half, audio problems prevented commentators Martin Tyler and Alan Smith from covering the action for a short period – leaving Sky Sports’ pundits with the responsibility of explaining the events on the pitch to viewers at home.

Host Dave Jones announced that Sky were experiencing audio issues, before asking Richards, Jamie Redknapp and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink ‘who fancies it?’.

In typical fashion, the former Manchester City man was keen to get involved, replying: “Is this my debut on co-comms? This is fantastic!”

Redknapp asked Richards ‘what he’s got’, which led to the 33-year-old doing his best to cover the action.

With the Gunners in possession, Richards said: “[Aaron] Ramsdale on the ball”, which led to a chorus of laughs from his fellow pundits.

Thankfully – for Richards’ sake – it didn’t take too long for Tyler and Smith to return to their duties, with Sky having seemingly solved their technical issues.

On the pitch, Mikel Arteta’s side took the lead against Brendan Rodgers’ men in the 11th minute, thanks to Thomas Partey’s header.

The home side doubled their lead in the 59th minute, with captain Alexandre Lacazette converting his penalty after Çağlar Söyüncü was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the penalty area.
