Mesut Ozil played his part in Manchester City’s signing of Leroy Sane

Can't resist an assist...

As well all know, Mesut Ozil loves an assist.

The German playmaker laid on 19 goals for Arsenal over the course of last season’s Premier League, more than any other player in England’s top flight.

Not content with that, it’s now turned out that Ozil assisted Manchester City in their pursuit of his countryman, Leroy Sane.

City confirmed the £37m deal to bring Sane in Schalke last week, with the young German explaining that Pep Guardiola was a significant factor in his decision to move to Manchester. What he failed to mention was that Ozil played a part in his move to England.

Speaking to Spox, the Arsenal man explained that the he had spoken to Sane about playing in the Premier League before the 20-year-old made his move.

“Naturally, the Premier League was a topic we discussed several times,” Ozil said.

“I told Leroy that I regard it as the best league in the world and that young players can develop well there.

“That is why I was happy for him when the transfer materialised. He will improve a lot under Pep Guardiola.”

Sane, who missed the preseason friendly with Ozil’s Arsenal side with a hamstring injury, could make his bow for Pep Guardiola’s new side in their Champions League qualifier with Steaua Bucharest next week.
