Matt Doherty set to sign new deal with Wolves amid interest from Tottenham

Matt Doherty is set to sign a new deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Republic of Ireland defender has been in brilliant form this season for the newly-promoted Premier League side. Doherty has scored three goals and registered four assists, helping Wolves to ninth place in the table. The Republic of Ireland international will be in contention to be named in the Premier League's team of the season if he continues his impressive form. Doherty is a constant attacking outlet for Wolves at wing-back and has become an integral part of Nuno Espirito Santo's side. According to The Mirror and The Irish Independent, he is set to be offered a new deal. Doherty, who joined the club from Bohemians for £75,000 in 2010, is Wolves' longest-serving player. His current deal expires in 2021, but Wolves look set to offer him a new contract that will double his wages. Doherty had been working without an agent, with his father representing his interests. Both reports claim that Jorge Mendes, the so-called "super-agent" who represents Cristiano Ronaldo and José Mourinho among others, is working on the deal for Doherty. Mendes has close links to Wolves and also represents the club's manager. The new deal for Doherty will scupper any interest Tottenham have in the player. Spurs are said to be interested in signing Doherty and are understood to be monitoring his contract situation. The 26-year-old helped Wolves record a 3-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley recently. However, Doherty is likely to remain at Wolves and sign a new deal.
