Match of the Day

Change your plans

Match of the Day will be moved from its usual Saturday night slot to accommodate the Eurovision song contest this weekend.

The popular International music contest takes place in Liverpool on Saturday and coverage of the event will begin at 8PM on BBC One, finishing at midnight, taking over Match of the Day’s usual 10:20/10:30PM evening slot.

Those still wishing to get their football fix won’t go without, with BBC Two showing the highlights of all the action from Saturday’s Premier League fixtures at a slightly earlier time of 10PM.

Gary Lineker is still expected to host the broadcast which will feature games that could have a huge impact at both ends of the table. Games such as Aston Villa vs Spurs; Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest and Manchester United vs Wolves will all be there for everyone to enjoy.

Graham Norton meanwhile will return to host the 67th year of Eurovision, which will be hosted in Liverpool on behalf of last year’s winners, Ukraine.

Eurovision has helped to springboard some of the most iconic musicians in history, ranging from ABBA to Celine Dion.

Mae Muller is this year’s UK entry with ‘I Wrote a Song’ and she will be hoping to go one step further than last year’s UK participant Sam Ryder, who came second overall.

Thousands are expected to travel to Merseyside this weekend with local police describing it as their “largest operation for decades.”

Some plans may have been scuppered however due to the ongoing rail replacement strikes that are set to take place.
