No wonder Chelsea are currently top of the Premier League

Mason Mount is statistically the most creative player in the Premier League, according to WhoScored.com.

WhoScored – a detailed football statistics website – released a statistic which revealed that the Chelsea and England midfielder is creating a clear-cut goalscoring opportunity more frequently than any other player in the Premier League (5+ starts) this season (every 105 minutes).

Mount has been a regular for the Blues ever since his impressive loan spell at Derby County in the 2018/19 campaign.

During that season, where he played under Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, he scored 11 goals and bagged six assists – playing a significant role in the Rams reaching the Championship play-off final.

The following season – his first full campaign as a first-team Chelsea player – he featured on 53 occasions, accumulating eight goals and six assists.

Last season was even more impressive from the young midfielder, who once again made over 50 appearances (54), but increased both his goals and assists return to nine.

The 22-year-old has made 16 appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side so far this season, registering three goals and two assists.

His impressive form over the last year has seen him nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, alongside Lionel Messi and a host of other footballing greats.

While his performances merit his feature on the shortlist, he still insists that it is ‘crazy’ to see his name alongside people he has looked up to.

“To see my name alongside the names I’ve looked up to all my life is crazy, Messi in particular,” Mount told GQ magazine.

Since his breakthrough at Chelsea, Mount has also become a regular for England and Gareth Southgate, featuring in five of England’s seven games at Euro 2020 – missing two games through injury.

While Mount is competing amongst a host of other top class English attacking midfielders in the Premier League, his impressive start to the season – both statistically and visually – is there for all the see.
