United are expected to make a final decision on Greenwood’s future soon

Mason Greenwood is reportedly desperate to stay at Manchester United as uncertainty around his future continues.

Having not played in over 17 months, the 21-year-old is still awaiting the verdict of an internal investigation following allegations of rape and assault being made against him.

Subsequently suspended from the club, Greenwood has been unable to play for the Red Devils or train at their Carrington base with the rest of Erik Ten Hag’s squad.

The Crown Prosecution Service have dropped all charges against Greenwood and United are reportedly planning on making a final decision on his future before their first game of the Premier League season against Wolves on August 14.

When asked for an update on the forward’s future, Ten Hag said: “It’s a club decision and of course, I shared my opinions but it’s a club decision and we all have to accept that.”

According to The Sun, the one-time England international has told close friends that he “realises that he has to grow up” after becoming a father for the first time earlier this month.

Atalanta are said to be interested in a loan move for the forward. If a deal was completed, it would be separate to the negotiations involving the two clubs when it comes to Rasmus Hojlund.

United have agreed a fee with the Serie A side to sign the Danish youngster and he is seen as the long-term striker for the Red Devils and a cheaper alternative to Harry Kane, who looks to be edging closer to joining Bayern Munich.
