Manchester United’s pursuit of Ivan Perisic hit by setback

This complicates the situation

This complicates the situation.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Ivan Perisic for months. Jose Mourinho is said to be a big fan of the Inter Milan winger, and it has been reported in the past few days that he is on the verge of joining the Premier League club.

According to the Daily Mail, United had agreed a fee worth £44m with Inter for the Croatian. The report claimed Perisic would not be part of Inter’s squad for their pre-season trip to China.

However, it appears the deal isn’t as close to completion as had been reported. On Tuesday, Perisic returned to Milan from Croatia and was spotted at Inter’s training ground.

And was then named in Inter’s squad for their trip to China, where they will play four matches.

This could mean the deal is off, or just a minor hiccup United’s pursuit of the winger. According to reports in Italy, Inter have not received a ‘formal offer’ for the player.

Mourinho was asked about Perisic following United’s pre-season win over Real Salt Lake, and said he had “no idea” if he would be joining the club. It appears Jose was telling the truth.

If United are still interested in the player, it looks like there’s still some way to go before any deal is completed.
