Manchester United are interested in signing Matteo Kovačić from Real Madrid this summer, according to Cadena COPE journalist Arancha Rodriguez.

United have already announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk, but have reportedly added Kovačić to their shopping list for the summer as they look to bolster their midfield options.

Kovačić moved to Real Madrid from Inter Milan in 2015, but has struggled for game time, having to compete with Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos for a spot in Madrid’s midfield.

Still only 24 years old, the Croatian midfielder has a lot of potential that is yet to be unlocked. Manchester United are hoping José Mourinho could be the man to do that.

Other clubs around Europe are also interested in the player, with Juventus and Roma hoping to bring him back to Serie A.

Roma, who are set to lose Radja Nainggolan as early as today, would see Kovačić as a direct, younger replacement.

Juventus meanwhile are always on the hunt for a bargain, having already announced the signing of Emre Can on a free transfer, Kovačić would add energy to a midfield that is beginning to show signs of ageing.
