Manchester United fans react to £40m Eric Dier story

They've got no i-Dier

JOE

Eric Dier was possibly the stand out performer for England against Germany last week.

The Tottenham Hotspur man was composed, authoritative and commanding in the centre of the pitch and showed why he was such a vital first team player for the North London club last season. He of course remains an important figure at White Hart Lane, but has been usurped somewhat in his favoured holding position by Victor Wanyama.

Nevertheless he is an important option for Mauricio Pochettino, and a popular player amongst the fans. So it may concern them to know that Manchester United are apparently sniffing around and may make a move in the summer. The Sun report that Jose Mourinho is after a new midfielder, and sees Dier as the perfect replacement for Michael Carrick.

The 23-year-old would also prove a useful option at the back with his versatility and ability to play the centre-back role with some aplomb. But Manchester United fans haven’t exactly greeted the news with wild excitement. Quite the opposite in fact. They can’t understand why Jose would sanction the rumoured £40m move a player they don’t deem good enough.

This is a day after they stuck their noses up at a likely move for Croatian Ivan Perisic. One has to wonder whether the problem is the quality of players being linked, or perhaps a level of delusion. These are the rather cruel and unfair things they’re saying about Dier…
