Manchester United fans ask David De Gea to do their bidding as he celebrates Saul Niguez’s brilliance

What a player

Manchester United supporters reckon Saul Niguez would look mighty fine in that red jersey of theirs.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been a transfer target for the Red Devils for some time now and while his name has not been mentioned all that often this summer, that seems to have changed as of Tuesday night.

Niguez scored a hat-trick for Spain’s U21 side as they condemned Italy to a 3-1 defeat in the European U21 Championship semi-final, setting up a clash with Germany in the final.

There wasn’t a bad goal among Niguez’s three, with his second the pick of the bunch as he rifled a long-range shot beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma in the Italian goal.

The strike was so pure that it prompted a praising tweet from his international compatriot, David De Gea.

The Manchester United stopper tweeted “Mamma Mia” and tagged his friend who, astonishingly, is still only 22 years old.

De Gea likely didn’t know the can of worms he was opening with his congratulations for Niguez as United supporters, as they sometimes do, got incredibly excited by the fact that one of their players had referenced a top talent.

A torrent of replies begging for De Gea to convince Niguez to swap the Vicente Calderon for Old Trafford soon followed because this is the transfer window.

This is silly season.
