After their 2-0 victory over Watford extended their unbeaten run in the league to 14 games, Manchester United finally moved out of sixth position.
This, coupled with the fact that Liverpool - the team they'd just leap-frogged - had a difficult evening match against high-flying Spurs, left the many of those leaving Old Trafford feeling good about their team's prospects of clambering up in to the top four.
With Liverpool having something of a nightmare 2017, it seemed clear that Jürgen Klopp's men would surrender at least two points against a Spurs side that some were still claiming were in a title race ahead of kick off.
However, things didn't work out that way.
With less than 20 minutes played, shambolic defending from the visitors saw Sadio Mané score twice. With the majority of the game still to come, it seemed inevitable that Jose Mourinho's United would remain in sixth, after briefly rising to fifth.
Twitter wasn't all that sympathetic.
