A dream come true for nine-year-old Lucy Beth

The winner of Manchester City’s ‘Design a Kit’ competition has been announced as nine-year-old Lucy Beth Duffy from Dublin, Republic of Ireland.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, Man City’s kit suppliers Puma ran a competition inviting young fans to submit their designs for a City kit, and received over 1,000 entries from around the world.

Lucy Beth pink and blue design was chosen as the winner and looking at the stunning pink and blue design, it’s not hard to see why.

Speaking to BBC Northern Ireland, Lucy said: “I love drawing and colouring so I thought as it was Man City it was perfect for me.”

Explaining her design process, she explained: “They already had stripes, so I though the stripes coming in would be really cool for a pop of colour.”

Sergio Aguero, her favourite player, announced the news that she had won the competition via a video.

“I am so excited to win this competition and I still can’t believe Sergio Aguero made a video just for me. PUMA did a great job. I can’t believe my design became a real jersey – it’s a thumbs up from me,” Lucy said.
