Manchester City’s new psychedelic kit is their wildest yet

Apparently Manchester City's new psychedelic kit is a nod to Britpop and the mod culture of the 1960s. What do you think? Hit or miss?

Psychedelic City

Manchester City have developed something of a penchant for wacky, out-there shirt designs based on some abstract connection to their home city of Manchester. Indeed their kit manufacturer Puma work extremely hard to push the boat out on new motifs referencing civic pride and heritage.

Recent efforts have included…

The ‘Hacienda’:

…the ‘Northern Quarter mosaic’:

…and the ‘Castlefield’:

But their new design is probably the most daring yet. Riffing off their recent paisley third kit, the new eSports edition is a little less subtle. Darker in palette, with daring flashes of orange and turquoise, it’s sure to be a hit with old timers and gamers alike.

According to the official blurb:

‘The City esports jersey celebrates the rich music and fashion culture of the city. The jersey features a unique paisley pattern created for Manchester City featuring the details of the club’s crest. The pattern is synonymous with artists from the ‘Mod’ and the ‘Brit Pop’ eras of the 1990’s and was a staple of youth fashion in the 1960’s, influencing fashion and music culture in Manchester for generations.’

What do you reckon? Hit or miss?
