This was a classy touch

A classy gesture

Manchester City couldn’t break the deadlock against Huddersfield today, as they were held to a 0-0 draw by the Terriers. But still, they were went one point closer to reaching that illusive 100 and lifted the Premier League trophy after the game, having won it on April 15th when Manchester United lost to West Brom.

During the celebrations, champagne was poured, fireworks were let off, Hey Jude was sung. There was also a pitch invasion, such is the custom when the title returns to the Etihad.

When the fans were on the pitch, mobbing the players, two fans unveiled a touching banner displaying a message of support to Sir Alex Ferguson, who fell ill on Friday night.

The banner read: “Football aside, get well Fergie.”

It’s a small gesture that speaks volumes of the extent to which football can unite us, in spite of every reason we find to be divided at the weekend.

Sir Alex Ferguson was the cause of great misery for much of these City fans’ lives, but they speak for us all when they wish the former United boss a speedy recovery.

Not only fans, but several former players have been posting messages of support on social media too.
