Keane called Walker “an idiot”

Manchester City have reportedly complained to Sky Sports about comments made by Roy Keane about Kyle Walker.

Keane was one of Sky’s pundits for Manchester City’s game against Liverpool last weekend, and true to form, caused a stir with some controversial, outlandish comments.

Liverpool’s goal in the 1-1 draw came from the penalty spot after Walker’s late challenge on Sadio Mané brought down the winger, allowing Mohamed Salah to give the champions the lead from 12 yards.

Asked how Mané earned himself the spot kick, Keane explained: “Because he’s up against an idiot,” before later adding “he’s a car crash, keeps making these types of mistakes and is rightly punished for it.”

Sportsmail are now reporting that Manchester City believe a line was crossed when Keane used the word ‘idiot’ and have complained to the broadcaster about the former Manchester United captain’s comments.

Sky have not issued a response but say their pundits are there to express opinions.

The tackle in question was widely criticised for its clumsy nature, after Walker took a gamble by tracking an outside run before Mané took a different path into the City penalty area. And City say they have no issue with their players being criticised by have taken objection to the use of the word idiot.

If we know Roy Keane, I wouldn’t expect an apology to be forthcoming any time soon.

Walker will be playing against his old club in the next round of Premier League games, as Man City travel to north London to play Tottenham in another Mourinho vs Guardiola duel.

The game will be broadcast on Sky Sports and will kick off at 5:30pm. You probably won’t want to miss that one, or the post-game analysis.
