Malcolm Ebiowei 'ignored Erik ten Hag text' before signing for Crystal Palace

Ebiowei is set to sign for Crystal Palace soon

New Crystal Palace signing Malcolm Ebiowei snubbed Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag before signing for the Eagles, according to reports.

The 18-year-old forward agreed a deal to join Patrick Vieira's side, who are expected to officially announce the deal soon - beating the likes of United, Tottenham and Monaco for his signature.

According to the Sun, Ebiowei ignored a text from new Red Devils manager Ten Hag and a number of calls from assistant Steve McClaren before agreeing a move to the south London club.

The report adds that United contacted Ebiowei on several occasions to discuss a move to Old Trafford, with Ten Hag sending a text to the youngster, while former Derby technical director McClaren attempted to call the player.

However, Sportsmail note that, while United were interested in the player, they did not fully pursue a move for him.

Ebiowei 'persuaded' by Palace sporting director

It is thought that the former Arsenal and Rangers academy star was persuaded by Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman's 'personal crusade' to secure his signature.

Freedman, a former Palace boss, reportedly met the player on two occasions and showed him around the club's facilities. He is also said to have turned up at his front door to personally drive him to his medical.

Ebiowei made 15 appearances for Derby in the Championship last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

Rooney resigns as Rams boss

Wayne Rooney resigned as Rams manager on Friday after spending 18 months at Pride Park, suggesting that someone with 'fresh energy' was required to take the reigns. Derby, who are still in administration, will play in the third-tier next season after relegation last campaign.
