Man United’s official Twitter account mysteriously tweets about James Rodriguez during Manchester Derby

The major talking point of Saturday's Manchester Derby

Simon Lloyd

Manchester United won the Manchester Derby on Saturday evening. You might’ve heard.

Trailing 2-0 to City at half-time, United hit back with three second half goals – two from Paul Pogba, one from Chris Smalling – to deny Pep Guardiola’s side a famous title-clinching victory at the Etihad.

But never mind all that. Instead, let’s allow ourselves a few minutes to concentrate on the real important talking point from the big game. No, not Paul Pogba having bits of blue in his hair, but the fact an official Manchester United Twitter account tweeted James Rodriguez’s name – an action that will almost certainly be interpreted by some as a sign that United are plotting some form of big money summer move for him.

Yep, for reasons unknown, the name of the Colombian international – on loan at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid – was briefly tweeted out by United’s Twitter account for Spanish speakers, midway through the game.

The tweet was swiftly deleted, the account returning to providing updates on the game for its 587,000-strong following. But of course, nothing is ever really deleted on the internet. Look, here’s a low resolution screengrab to prove it…

Perhaps don’t bother checking if you can order your 18/19 Rodriguez home shirts just yet, United fans.
