‘That pitch invader was our Man Of The Match’
Manchester United’s supporters strangely opted to praise a pitch invader after their narrow 1-0 win against Wolves on Monday.
Raphael Varane scored the only goal of the game 14 minutes from time after Erik ten Hag’s side spent a large majority of the game under the cosh from the away side, who were being managed by Gary O’Neill for the first time after taking charge just four days before.
Despite a host of chances Wolves were made to pay for their missed efforts as Varane rose highest to head home Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s looping ball into the box.
Wolves were then controversially not awarded a penalty in the dying moments of the game as Andre Onana came to claim a cross from the right hand side of the pitch, only to cleanly take out striker Sasa Kalajdzic.
After the game, PGMOL chief Jon Moss apologised to Wolves boss Gary O’Neill and said that Wolves should’ve been awarded a penalty.
As Wolves tried to chase an equaliser late on, one of their attacks was disrupted by a man who ran onto the pitch.
He evaded Wolves ‘keeper Jose Sa and two of the security staff before being caught and escorted out of the stadium.
While fans inside the ground booed the pitch invader, people on social media saw the lighter side of it.
“That pitch invader has shown more movement in 10 seconds than any of Man Utd’s midfielders all game,” wrote one user.
“That pitch invader was our Man Of The Match,” said another.
“Best closing down by Man U defence all game”
