Man United linked with unexpected moves for midfielder and striker

With Louis van Gaal attracting his fair share of criticism for the way his Manchester United side have been playing lately, it was only a matter of time before the club were linked with a signing or two.

Instead of the usual rumours of a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or Thomas Muller, reports on Monday morning linked United with two rather unexpected transfers. Nobody would really have anticipated former West Brom midfielder Borja Valero featuring too highly on van Gaal's wishlist but according to reports, United have had the 30-year-old watched by scouts as he played for Fiorentina. Blick, the Swiss publication, also suggests a move for Basel's exciting youngster Breel Embolo could be on the cards. The 18-year-old striker is turning the heads of several European heavyweights.
