Manchester United fans think they’ve found a ‘clue’ on the official club website over who the next manager could be.

The Dutchman has been under pressure after a dismal start to the season, with just seven points on the board from six games and have now slumped to 13th in the league.

This was further compounded by United’s 3-0 thrashing by Tottenham at the weekend where rumours surrounding his imminent sacking intensified.

The club are said to be confident they have the right man for the job and will remain in charge for at least the next two games against Porto and Aston Villa.

The favourites to replace Ten Hag are his assistant coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy and former England boss, Gareth Southgate.

One fan came across a new United waistcoat on the club shop which is now discounted to £337.

Southgate is widely known for rocking a waistcoat, setting a trend at the 2021 European Championship as fans flocked to purchase the clothing item as they got behind the manager of the Three Lions.

The fan took to social media to share his discovery, tagging Southgate in the post: “Could be nothing, but not seen this on the website until now…”

Other football sleuths flocked to comment on the post with their own thoughts and opinions on the matter with many not relishing the thought of the former England manager taking charge of the Red Devils.

One said: “Heard someone talking about how Gareth would be alright as manager today. Had to mind my own business.”

Another added: “Oh ffs. It’s going to happen isn’t it.”

While a third simply said: “Please no.”

While another joked: “Southgate merch on the Man Utd website already.”

However, despite the growing expectation that Ten Hag’s days at the club are numbered, the 54-year-old insists he is not worried about his job.

He said: “No, I am not thinking about this. We all made together this decision to stay together, as an ownership, a leadership group in the summer, also we made the decision from a clear review what we have to improve and how we want to construct a squad.

“But we knew it will take some time, how the window went, some players late in like [Manuel] Ugarte. Also, we have to make some improvement in organisation, some injuries, we need some time.

“We are all on one page or in one boat together, the ownership, the staff and the players as well. I don’t have that concern.”
