It’s been a dismal year for Man United
Manchester United have cancelled their end of season awards ceremony after players requested the event not take place following a dismal campaign.
United failed to qualify for the Champions League and could even miss out on the Europa League in what has been the club’s worst-ever Premier League season.
Players have been left embarrassed by United’s season
The Red Devils usually hold the event around a fortnight before the end of the season to celebrate the achievements of the first-team squad, academy players with a gala dinner, hosted at Old Trafford.
Legends of the club often attend in one of the biggest nights of the year at United, with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson among those usually in attendance.
But as per the Mirror, players were left so embarrassed by how badly this season had gone that they asked for the event to be cancelled, despite missing out on the awards the last two years due to covid restrictions.
United could still drop out of the Europa League places
United go into the final day of the season against Crystal Palace knowing that should they lose and West Ham United win then they will be consigned to playing in the UEFA Conference League next season which would just about sum up their year.
The sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set the tone with performances failing to improve under interim boss Ralf Rangnick. Fans have also expressed their animosity towards the club’s owners with several protests towards the end of the season.
Things could well get brighter after Erik ten Hag was recently announced the club’s new boss and is already working hard behind the scenes to help improve United from top to bottom.
Among his extensive to do list is a huge summer clear out with players such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and more all set to leave.
