Majority of England fans want Gareth Southgate sacked, according to poll

Lots of you want Southgate gone

The majority of England fans want Gareth Southgate sacked, according to a FootballJOE poll.

Southgate has come under heavy fire and was subjected to boos and chants of ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ and ‘Sacked in the morning’ as England were beaten comprehensively 4-0 by Hungary on Tuesday night.

The defeat left England winless in their last four games and bottom of their Nations League group, with just two points to their name.

England’s downturn in form has led to a rise of resentment towards Southgate, with many now questioning his position, and calling for change to give England the best chance of success at the Qatar World Cup later this year.

The poll, in which there were 4,853 entries, revealed that 54.2 per cent of people who voted wanted to see a change in management, while 45.8 per cent still think Southgate is the one and can bring football home again.

Who could replace him?

If the Football Association are to listen to our poll, which I’m sure would play a vital role in any decision, and sack Southgate then the big topic of course would be: who replaces him?

Graham Potter is a name that has been on everyone’s lips in recent weeks given the excellent job he has done at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Potter plays an exciting brand of football – something Three Lions supporters have been clamouring for – and fans believe he can unlock the full potential of the attacking talent at England’s disposal.

Sean Dyche is another name being thrown around but in reality, would he be that different? Dyche is renowned for his teams’ defensive solidity, something Southgate has also prioritised while in charge of England–though recent games have seen that solidity vanish.

Whatever your opinion, it’s unlikely the FA will sack Southgate so close to a major tournament unless something majorly drastic happens.
