Liverpool’s Paddy Pimblett releases statement after losing title in comprehensive fashion

Back to the drawing board

One of the most talked-about fighters outside the UFC has to return to the drawing board.

Paddy Pimblett dropped his Cage Warriors featherweight title on Saturday night in his native Liverpool after being beaten on all fronts by relatively unheralded challenger Nad Narimani.

Narimani claimed a unanimous decision over ‘The Baddy’, whose next stop many expected to be the UFC, and the scenes that followed in Liverpool’s Echo Arena were shameful to see the least.

Empty plastic glasses and water bottles interrupted Narimani’s post-victory interview, marring the greatest night of his career.

And while Narimani focuses on the first defence of his 145lbs strap, Pimblett must rebuild the head of steam he had behind him before he fell to his first defeat since 2013.

The 22-year-old will be back stronger, there is no doubt about that.

And the outspoken Liverpudlian has released the below statement on those relishing in his loss.

“So last night didn’t go to plan, a lot of things happened but I just wanna congratulate Nad on his performance. Well done man!” Pimblett wrote on Facebook. “Want to thank everyone who came down to show support and watch the show – all my family and friends who are there for me and my other family, Next Generation. We had a bad night at the office but we’re only gonna come back stronger.

“Write me off all you want people, tell me how shit I am now and say how over-hyped I am and how many different fighters would beat me… but it will be you in a year’s time who’s back licking my ass telling everyone ‘I said he would come back stronger!’

“Tell me to change all yous want but I’ll always be outspoken cause that’s me! Anyway all the best are loved and hated. I’ll never change I’ll always be Paddy Pimblett from Huyton whether I am a world champ, a postman or a fucking hobo! What you see is what you get, like it or leave it.”
