Liverpool respond to rumours of Nabil Fekir medical

A bit premature

The gun was jumped ever so slightly.

Liverpool supporters were thrilled by the prospect of their second major signing of the summer transfer window when rumours circulated on Saturday night that a deal was close to being completed for Nabil Fekir.

The Reds are believed to be in the driving seat to sign the Lyon midfielder and it was claimed that Fekir was set to travel to Merseyside on Sunday for talks with the Premier League side.

It was even suggested that a medical could take place if the discussion of the final details went well.

While Liverpool’s interest is obvious, the club has responded to the above rumour by denying that Fekir is set for a medical.

Guardian reporter Ed Aarons has provided the latest update from the Reds and it will come as something of a dampener for fans, who were hoping for some good transfer news to close out their weekend.

Jurgen Klopp reportedly sees Fekir as something of a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who left for Barcelona in January.

Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested in the 24-year-old but Fekir’s agent Jean-Pierre Bernes calmed Reds supporters’ nerves by insisting that “there is no contact with Bayern.”

Fekir was an unused substitute when France beat Italy on Friday night in an international friendly.
