Liverpool have reportedly rejected a world record takeover bid of £2 billion pound, submitted by Sheik Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nehayan, cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Khaled is said to have met with officials from the Anfield Club, most notably chairman Tom Werner, several times throughout 2017 and 2018, before making the unsuccessful offer.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, despite rejecting the bid from Khaled – one of the most successful investors in the Gulf – the club’s owners, the Fenway Sports Group, remain interested in outside investment.

It was also revealed that the £2 billion valuation of last season’s defeated Champions League finalists was settled upon prior to their defeat in Kiev and subsequent strengthening of the side throughout the summer.
