Liverpool fan demands Virgil van Dijk when he spots Reds owner at baseball game

"It's the right thing to do!"

That’s one way to get your point across.

One Liverpool supporter cut out all middlemen recently when he decided to go straight to the top to demand that his beloved Reds sign Virgil van Dijk when the transfer window reopens in January.

Twitter user @ArmenianTweets_ might not hail from Merseyside but that doesn’t lessen his passion for Liverpool Football Club by any means.

Attending a Boston Red Sox game, the outspoken fan spotted Fenway Sports Group chief John W. Henry, who owns both Liverpool and the Red Sox, and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make one simple request.

“Sign Virgil van Dijk in January!” he shouted at Henry, who clearly heard but failed to acknowledge the supporter’s presence.

“It’s the right thing to do. He wants to play for us.”

Liverpool made no secret of their desire to sign the Southampton defender in the summer and such was their eagerness to draft in the Dutchman to solve their defensive problems, the club was accused of an illegal approach for the player by the Saints.

The Reds were immediately forced to apologise and denounce their interest so as to avoid punishment but a transfer request from van Dijk later in the window offered renewed hope. The deal never got over the line but manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to return with a fresh offer for one of his top targets in January.

And if van Dijk does end up at Anfield come the midway point of the season, perhaps Reds supporters have one vocal Bostonian to thank.
