Liverpool cult hero Florent Sinama Pongolle is back in the UK

Remember him?

We haven’t thought about him in about 10 years but, all of a sudden, Florent Sinama Pongolle has rushed back into our consciousnesses.

He may have only appeared 38 times for Liverpool but that was enough to earn him “cult hero” status on Merseyside as he scored three goals during the Reds’ 2005 Champions League campaign which resulted in their fifth European Cup/Champions League triumph.

Since leaving Liverpool, Sinama Pongolle has been to Spain, Russia, America and Switzerland as he looked to recreate the heroics he showed on the road to Istanbul but it’s safe to say that his career has gone a little bit downhill ever since.

But the Frenchman is back in the UK now and is on trial with Scottish Premiership side Dundee United.

According to the Daily Record, United manager Mixu Paatelainen is looking to bring in a striker to replace Mario Bilate who left the club after recording just eight starts over his two seasons at Tannadice and Paatelainen wants to see what Sinama Pongolle can do.

It’s mad to think that Sinama Pongolle has just turned 31 but we think he’ll definitely do enough to get Dundee United to the Champions League final by 2018.

Definitely!
