A new strain of coronavirus has been discovered in Denmark
Liverpool's Champions League game against FC Midtjylland has been thrown into doubt after the British government imposed a travel ban between the UK and Denmark.
A new strain of coronavirus has spread from minks to humans in Denmark, leading to 17 million minks being culled in the Scandinavian country.
According to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, scientists discovered strains of the coronavirus in humans and minks which showed a decreased sensitivity to antibodies.
It is believed that this could potentially limit how effective a future coronavirus vaccine is.
Liverpool are due to travel to Denmark for their return fixture against Midtjylland on December 9th, but the travel ban could prevent the game from taking place.
The situation in Denmark has also put England's UEFA Nations League game against Iceland in doubt, as they are due to play Denmark in Copenhagen just three days before playing the Three Lions at Wembley.
Elite sport has mostly been exempt from lockdown restrictions since football returned in June, but government guidance states "there will be no exemptions to this quarantine policy."
